In any case I don't see a massive difference in the combat math between the other games and this game, its a nice blend of all the previous released games with some new stuff.Īs aclyte said, the biggest change is that figures dying off now has a mechanical effect which is probably my #1 wishlisted feature from AoW 3. Planetfall also had crit chance which was a big factor in my experience. Planetfall had lots of random chances for status effects, and you needed special equipment to negate those status effects. So it really encourages you to get up close and engage in melee rather than the optimal tactic in AoW 3 where you have a tank unit just defend and absorb hits, then range units pick apart the enemies from a distance once they exit defensive mode. And ranged attacks have a miss chance based on distance. Maybe the orcs are an exception but it seemed like the ranged units only have 1 attack, not 3x like in Aow 3. Most similar games with tactical combat have an issue where ranged units are flat out superior. It seems to me like the game is balanced to be more melee oriented in this game.
